Overview

With a jobseeker network of over 140,000, Only Marketing Jobs is the UK's leading marketing & digital job board.

The 'Only' brand, consisting of four niche job boards, were keen to increase their appeal to new users. At the time, their site was mainly driven by promotional content space. When jobseekers landed on the site, they would not convert or browse as the site's main function was hidden behind advertising space and chunky blocks of text.

 

The website as a whole had not been refreshed in a number of years, and many hyperlinks were either broken or had incorrectly tagged H1 titles, resulting in a confusing and stilted user journey, in addition to poor SEO value. 

 

The primary value of the website was focused around capturing jobseeker registrations when they landed on the homepage. At the time, the homepage left users with unmet expectations when the calls to action were not evident, and missed opportunities when the site's functionality was unclear.

In order to support the full jobseeker journey and elevate the user experience of the site, we embarked on a redesign of the key platform resources: the homepage, the content page and their mobile responsive counterparts. I worked with Only Marketing Jobs to lead the brand strategy and UX improvements of the website redesign.

Setting Goals

The process began by gathering feedback from first-time users to job hunting regulars.

Based on their common pain points while using the site and searching for jobs, I created aspirational user goals and design prompts to explore initial low-fidelity solutions.

    How can we offer a more personalised experience and show them more relevant roles?
     

  • Help me get to know the employers better
    How can we best showcase what an employer has to offer them?

    How can we positively reinforce ongoing engagement and loyalty to the platform throughout a user's career?

Explore

We tested low-fidelity changes and updates to the platform to see what users responded to. 

Exploration focused on bringing a clearer identity to the brand through restructuring homepage elements and adding strategic calls to action. On the business side, I maintained a level of promotional opportunities without compromising the overall user experience.

Refining

I developed an easy-to-update modular design system based on what resonated most during testing.
